Tuesday, 2 days to go

The surgery center just called me and I got all pre-registered.  Guess can't back out now.  I will be very happy when this is all over with.  Once again I will give my husband instructions on what to do if anything happens, not that it will, but I feel sometimes I am pushing the envelope each time I have surgery now.  How many times can you have surgery without having something go wrong.  I hope more times then I have, LOL.  I do plan on making an entry when I get home from the center.  It may just be I lived, but I will put something in.

I got this in an email today.  You might have also because it is going around.

Cancer update -- Johns Hopkins -- Cancer News from Johns Hopkins:

1. No plastic containers in microwave.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness ProgramManager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant Raman and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.

Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Pretty scary huh.  When I get things like this I like to check out the validaty of the email.  After all things like this are all over the net.  Turns out some of this is true, some is not. Go to this site to get the entire and true story.Microwaves, Plastics, and Dioxins - BreakTheChain.org

The thing is I got this email from my Aunt.  She sent it to everyone in her address book.  They probably all sent it to everyone in their address books.  All except me who posted it here.  But I posted it without blindly believing it to be true.  Because, I have been told and it is probably true, that I am a cynic at times.  You don't get to be this age without a healthy amount of cynicism.   I think it is good for you.

Since the part about plastic is basically true it is a good warning.  I will bring something besides plastic to work to heat up my meal in from now on.

Years ago I went through all my grandchildrens sippy cups and bottles and threw away the ones with certain numbers and replaced them with plastics labeled 5 or higher after reading that numbers under that may leach cancer causing chemicals.  Actually the numbers on the bottom are just there for recycling purposes.  Should have looked that one up and saved me some money.   I also got rid of my aluminum baking pans because I didn't want Alzheimer's.

Anyway, moral of the story, don't believe everything you read until you have checked out the facts.

P.S.  did you see my new picture on the side?

I've decided my new years resolution is to throw away my microwave...not buy anymore milk with hormones on it and make sure me and my whole family take Ambrosia every day...thats my next step....

Sweetie...you will be fine with this surgery...its RARE that something goes wrong..rare...you will be fine...your safer taking this surgery than driving in a car.....
