Weekend assignment

Weekend Assignment #151: Is Valentine's Day a genuinely romantic day? Or just a big commercial money pit into which romantic people fall? Go on, share how you really feel about the day -- whether you enjoy it, or feel like it's forced on you by greeting card companies, or fall somewhere in between those two poles.

Rick and I have a weird tradition on this day.  We go to Buffalo and get a window seat.  Then we count how many couples we see holding hands.  It is the only day of the year that you see it this much and one of the few days where the man will initiate the hand holding.  We chuckle when at times the woman will rip her hand out of his.  Hummmm what was THAT reaction.  Men open the door for their ladies, they hold their elbow while they step of the curb.  They buy them gifts and make them feel special.

So  I guess I have to say I enjoy the day because I enjoy people watching and we both enjoy our little tradition.   Sometimes we even hold hands, LOL.  We don't exchange cards because we don't need a day to tell us we mean alot to each other.  But this is a very very special day.  It is the day we became grandparents for the first time.  That is why the day is so special to us.

I love Valentine's Day. I don't have a romantic sweetheart this year, but it's my son's Bday.  And he's the best sweetheart I've ever had.
Have a good weekend.

I think it's mostly a money pit, same as Halloween, Easter, and most sadly, Christmas.    It was a good intention, I believe....not now.

PS:  Ole Boy holds my hand and loves on me all through the year...no more or no less on Valentine's Day.   I'm blessed in that respect.

I've never believed you need a special day to show someone you love them, it's what you do for them through the year that counts. It's way too commercialised now same as every occasion, I don't like Valentine's day, Christmas or Easter for that reason! I've never needed a special day to let Andy know I love him, I tell him every time I see him! Jeannette xx  http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels/

Yiiii!! Umm....I don't find a single thing romantic about the day. Guess because idiots who don't normally do a kind thing feel obligated to do so that day. If you love someone you don't need one day of the year to show it. To me it's like giving flowers at a funeral, why then? Wouldn't it have been more meaningful to have received them while you where alive? Congrats on the new grand baby on that day. Now you will definately have a reason to celebrate, it will be some little one's birthday. (Hugs) Indigo

My grandson was born on the 13 Feb six years ago now. He just missed out on Valentines Day.
We have never celebrated it.   I know our love sits there quietly every moment of the day.   Jeanie xx

Hmmmm.  I'm not really much of a romantic, surprisingly though, my husband is, at least most of the time.  I do know he already bought gifts this year, and that is usually my thing.  I'm not really into "mushy" stuff, but I had better get a move on or feelings will be hurt.  De ;)

Well, I am going on my fifth year single on Valentines day. I would be sittin in that restaurant counting away, lol. And, of course high-fiven the gals who swipe their hand away, lol. Men just dont get it. They just dont. I should saturate my sons with romance movies. ~Raven
