Well the day is almost done.  I have finished my therapy, ran all my chores and had a beer or 2.  We had a great discussion on why people believe the things they do and politics.  Brain food.  Thinking is good.

My therapist thinks I have a tear in my meniscus.  She says by the symptoms I am having plus the popping when she moves my knee she is pretty certain that is what it is.  So what does that mean?  Will it get better on its own or will I need to have it cleaned out.  I have a pretty good pain tolerance.  But is that the best way to treat this?  I can live with the pain but will it get worse and eventually cause me to lose some function of my knee?   I need to research this for sure.  I just want to keep working for 12 more years.  Nursing is hard on your body.  When your body is trying to say to slow down and your can't it is harder then normal on your body.  So I will do my exercises and hope for the best.  Oh to  be young again.

My daughter had a torn miniscus and needed orthroscopic surgery.  Sometimes they can repair them, depending on the severity.  Kelly had to have 60% of her miniscus removed.  The surgery was successful, but she wound up with a neuroma and now has some lingering nerve damage.

Most people have no trouble at all with the surgery.  We have just had a bunch of weird circumstances.

Good luck!!!

((hugs))

I can't answer your questions on the tear, but I do hope that it will be something simple and not require any surgery or anything invasive.

Glad you enjoyed your beer and your debate Julie.  Resarch is the answer to your knee.  My husband had his knee operated on and it took him weeks of physio and walking to get back to normal.  Mind you....he's a big baby when it comes to pain!  If I so much as got half way across the room towards his knee after the op' he would let out a" Don't touch it!"  We women are made of iron girders....we can stand more pain than them.  Sorry fellas.....!!Lol!
I love the suset picture above...isn't it beautiful?   Jeanie

Nursing is so hard on the body. I know so many people who've had knee surgeries and the only people I know where it worked out for the better, a stronger knee than before, are those who honored best rest to the tee. I know you know all of this but my uncle, my sister, are two classic examples of feeling better, walking on their knee and ended up needing knee surgery again.  I hope your feeling better and I have no doubt you will care for yourself in this.

Jules, I also wanted to say something on a side note. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO much for your encouragement. I know I am in this sum-totals- of life season but your words are so good for me. Thank you. ~Raven

Knee's can be tricky.  That's all I know.  I'm sure you'll do the right thing.
You are so right on nursing being hard on your body.  I've never had such a physically demanding job in my life!  I've got to work 20 more years and I can't imagine it in ICU.
Oh well....we'll see what happens.
Take care girl.

Julie, I'm sorry about the tear.  I hope there is some way to heal it so you can continue on.  I realized in my 30's that I would have loved to have been a nurse.  I was thrown into medical transcription and found out how much I love all aspects of the medical community.  I never pursued it.  Now, that I'm in my 50's, I know my body would have never held up.  I have small tears in my rotator cuff in my shoulder which act up and cause some pain.  Right now, I sit on my butt at a desk alll day and still have problems.  I also need to work at least 10 more years.  Wishing you all the best.  Chris
