My Flea Market Find

We have a large flea market in town that we go to look for books.  Usually full of the kind of stuff people throw away you never expect to find a treasure.  But I did.  Way in the back room on a shelf way in the back this basket stood out.  I can spot quality pottery a mile away.  Could it really be, getting closer, wow.....it must be damaged.....why would it be HERE of all places.   Picking it up and inspecting it for damage.  A small hairline and crazing.....not bad for a piece of pottery that was made in the late teens and early 20's.  It was a unmarked Weller Flemish 2 handled bowl!

Their early pieces weren't marked.  So it is safely home with me, for awhile at least until I sell it.  Isn't it lovely.  I just love it when I run across a gem like this and rescue it from possible unknowing people who might break it.  These old pieces are getting harder to find and must be protected.

So I was on a happy cloud yesterday.  I love a good find.  My best find was my Roseville Tourist Jardiniere.

From 1916 this is indeed a very rare piece of pottery, possibly a one of a kind item.  I paid $5.00 for it and sold it for $2200.00.  They got a bargain.  I also bought another old Roseville vase that day for $25.00 and sold it for $1000.00.  Pretty good profit and that is what I used to buy my washer and dryer.  I love the hunt.

We had to do quite a bit of running around yesterday and my knee was just screaming by the time I was done.  In stead of my weight loss journal, which isn't doing anything lately I should call this my falling apart journal.  Geesh, it seems like everytime I turn around I am witching about something else breaking.  Seriously I consider myself a healthy person.....really.  I just have bad bones.....Bad to the bone, that's me.  I saw a 4 prong cane at the flea market and told my husband I could use that today.  Laughable but almost true as much as my knee hurt.  I suppose the exercises are responsible for it hurting more also.

I am ticked.  We got maybe 40 flakes of snow.  After we cancelled our trip!  Darn weather, you just don't know what to expect.  I am happy we didn't get anymore snow though.

We were talking conspiracy theory yesterday.   Here it is.  Nicole, her son, the brother....all dead under strange circumstances.  Who stands to inherit all this money?  The father of the baby may have millions of reasons.  Now there are 3 people saying they may be the father.  Rick reminded me of that day he was late getting home last year!  I hope someone is protecting this sweet little baby.

I don't think I will get my weight loss tomorrow.  I had a eating binge yesterday.  I don't know why I do that.  All low fat stuff but it adds up if you don't stop.  Depression over my knee, world affairs, my terrible fingernails which refuse to grow, who knows what triggers it but every once in awhile I lose hope and could care less about losing any more weight.  It seems like I try and try and my body keeps falling apart anyway no matter what I do.  Is this what it is like getting old.  No matter what you do you can't stop the hands of time?  I don't expect to be a bathing beauty, I just want to be healthy.  IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

That was a great find Julie! I've picked up a few things from my local flea market. Most people start off on new diets in the new year when it's the hardest time to lose weight due to cold weather, unable to get out and exercise etc. You'll do it eventually. Sorry about the big price but I myself like the little basket the best. It just appeals to me. Maybe you will end up getting a big price for it. Hope that knee feels better soon. Helen

Hey, GREAT find!  You never know what you will find in flea markets, and antique stores.  This trip paid off for you very well.  If I've learned anything over the past few years paying attention to the weather, never trust the weather man.

Hope you feel better this week.

What great finds you made...all are just lovely.
I love flea markets...you can find some awesome items, just as you did.
Hope we don't get what the weathermen are calling for...over 10 inches...by Wed.  Hope your knee has a good, pain free week...rest when you can...hugs and love,
Joyce

What a find!  That pottery is beautiful.  When you know what you're looking for and what it is, you can find things even at Goodwill.  Most have absolutely no idea of what they are getting rid of.

I can understand your frustration.  It always seems like I take two steps forward and one backward constantly.  Love the banging hit graphic. I feel like that today.  Chris

I, too, know what I'm looking for at a flea maket, and can spot it from a mile away.  I collect Jewel Tea Autumn Leaf china.  You found some lovely pottery!

That is outstanding that you can produce such profit from two items at a flea market. Why work? ... By the way that whatever it is at the end of your entry is captivatingly insane.

Sometimes an eating binge does the trick. It just does. I really loved that first pot you found. That was all me. Very nice. I love antique and flea markets. I could browse there for hours.  Sad to hear the folks are coming out of the woodwork for I am the babies father stuff.  They all died? What happened?  ~Raven
