Hi All

The cold weather has arrived.  It finally feels better to me at my MIL's.

How is everything going?   Things are getting close for my MIL.  Her kidneys are failing and she is confused at times.  We are not able to walk her as much so we have a commode by the bed.  She has a large tumor on her side that has doubled in size in a week.  With its growth her pain has gotten worse so we have her on morphine now which is helping.  The only thing she hasn't lost is her appetite but she doesn't want anything nutritious.  Potato chips, chocolate, lemon muffins, popcorn she chows down.  Home made black bean soup with ham, chicken and noodles homemade, no way, give me the chocolate.  Woman after my own heart.  If I knew I was dying it would be bring on the cheesecake and did you say chocolate?  Yummy.

We haven't heard from the BIL in over a month but apparently he called the social worker yesterday.  She is going to call him today and then call us.  He probably wants to just see if she has died and if he has anymore money coming.  He has probably gone through the money he got the first time.  Sadly my MIL wants to call him tonight.  No matter what he does to her she still, even nows worries about him.  She can't believe he hasn't called.  She doesn't know he called the social worker yet.  We are waiting to see what he wants first.

So Tuesday I was grabbing the dog as she was being rowdy.  My ring hooked on her collar and something popped in my finger.   Immediately I knew it was going to be bad.  It swelled up so fast I couldn't get the ring off.  I soaked it in ice water and elevated it all night.   We couldn't go to the hospital because I can't leave my MIL alone and didn't think I could drive as my hand hurt so much.  So the next day a volunteer sat with her and we went up.  My finger was so swollen I felt like it would pop.  Pain, well you can imagine.  The pressure was unreal.   They cut my ring off as there was no way it was coming off and my finger was being strangled.  The finger or the ring.....bye ring.   My favorite one also but fortunately not expensive.  It wasn't broken thank goodness and they also did a chest X ray since my ribs are still hurting.   No pneumonia, just pleurisy.  Then to top it off the dog dumped very hot coffee on my lap and I have a 2nd degree burn on  my leg.  Poor Rick, not much help with the lifting as I was.  My back is out also.  I am giving moral support and cooking.  Pretty good cooking if I must admit also.  The black bean soup was excellent even if my MIL didn't like we both were most impressed with me.  I may learn how to do this yet.

So things are going just peachy, LOL.  I put my shop on vacation mode.   It is just to hard to get here to check the computer.  I might lose some sells but so be it.  My heart just isn't into it much right now anyway.

My MIL is at peace with whats coming.  She just hopes it hurries up as she is tired.  It has been a long road for us all.

Last but not least.  Ricks doc was so happy with how he turned out and he got off the heart med he hated.  Happy happy joy joy.   Now to work on his blood pressure and get him off that med and he will be a new man.  I think that will be down the road though.

Take care all.  I miss everyone and reading the journals.  I might download the AOL on my laptop and use it at my MIL's.  It would be dial up which I am so spoiled but that is better then nothing.  I have been reading some good books though.  Ta.

Hey Julie...sounds as if MIL is doing as well as can be expected...bless her heart.  Hate to hear she's in such pain she needs morphine.    Ouch!! for your hand.  My goodness....when it rains it pours.
At work, I use AOL.com, you can sign in and do anything you want (almost) without downloading...if you have internet access, that is.

I feel so bad for your MIL and that BIL is out right selfish and no good.  Sorry, had to say it.  To allow his Mom to feel this way...is so sad...she should go in peace, in her heart...I pray he changes and shows some compasion for her.  Hope your finger feels better soon...been there done that..exactly how you said it happened.  Ouch!  I know that pain.  Happy Ricks meds are working and the doc is pleased...that was truly good news.  Hope you have a lovely weekend...and take care of you too!!!
Hugs and love,
Joyce

I hope you MIL will go quitely and peacefully. If she is at peace that is good. If she want to see the BIL there is not much you can do but let her get one of her last wishes, that is if he wishes to ee her. At the stage she is it will be ok just to let her eat what she feels like eating. She is doing good to even want anything to eat. I hope you finger and back soon gets better. That is good news about Rick. Take care of yourself. Hugs, Helen

And I'm moaning about being tired!!!  Sheesh Julie!   It's all happening to you at the moment...isn't it?
I don't know how you coped with your finger so swollen and the ring still on. The pain must have been awful!
Sorry you have the cold weather.  We have had it for some time now.  We've had a few frosts too.  At present it has rained since last Sunday...blah!
I hope BIL keeps out of the way!!  All he is good for is agitating Betty and giving her false hope.  Poor soul!  I'm sorry her tumour has got so large and pray that the morphine keeps her comfortable.  What a life God love her!
Well....maybe that's the end of your accidents and you can start thinking positive again. With any luck it will be.  Bleack bean soup?  Never heard of that one...sounds nice though.
Take it easy and please keep safe in this bad weather.  I remember the conditions this time last year for you...is it that long since I have known you???
Time flies!
Hugs to you and prayers for Betty.

I'm glad the rings off your finger now Julie! It sounds terribly painful, made me wince! I feel so sorry for your MIL, I know your BIL is her son, how can he be so cold and callous as to stay away at a time like this? I know you want him nowhere near so I'm hoping he stays where he is. Yup, I'd want cheesecake (and ice cream) if I knew I was dying! Jeannette xx  http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels/

you will be blessed for what you are doing for your mil.  in my opinion, if bil wants to talk to his mom one last time, it might do her a world of good.  no matter what, we love our kids.   i know that finger hurt!  glad it wasn't broken.  i definitely understand about the back pain...mine gives me fits at times.  hope yours gets better soon.  hugs

Good grief...you just can't seem to catch a break.  I'm glad that your finger is not broken, but I know how dangerous it can be to have a ring on when a finger is injured.  That is why I rarely wear my wedding ring to work...just in case.  Hang in there, things are bound to get better.

You sound like me.... My knee and ankle are swollen due to my inabilty to determine the width of a doorway. I missed two entries this week because of the pain. I guess you're right, life is peachy here, too.

When my time comes, I hope I'm eating and drinking everything that's "bad for me" until the last moments. If you have to go, you might as well leave happy. Good luck with your health and good luck to your MIL.

I would also go for the chocolates and cakes.  I hope your MIL is not suffering too much.  Damn, your BIL really needs to pay his mother a visit.  You hate to have him around but it would be good for your MIL to at least see him once more.

Sheesh, I hope you're all recovered.  You sound like me with the freak injuries that occur out of nowhere.  Glad Rick is improving so well.  LOL..I need help with my BP right now.  I need to lose weight again and watch that sodium.  Chris
