He's home

Thanks everyone.  He made it home 2 hours later then usual.  I was nervous because the news kept talking about 2 people that had died and they had no details.  He had our cell phone, but never called...... the rat.  They had a lot more snow up there then here and with the wind chill it is 12 below today.  Very cold.

We are suppose to go to the gym in an hour but am not sure if it is opening late.  Anyway thanks for the prayers, I know they helped quide him home safely.

Prayers needed

My son is over an hour late getting home.  We have had alot of snow and he works over 30 miles away.  Can't get hold of him.  I am sure he fine but please send prayers.

Where the deer play

Isn't the tag beautiful that Donna made me?  She does lovely work, Thanks Donna.

Making supper today I looked outside and watched the deer in the back yard.  I had put out seed for the birds and the deer were all there, about 9, raiding my feeders.  They looked pretty fat and healthy so I was pretty sure they weren't starving, LOL.  In the back woods I saw a deer going ripping through, leaping over downed trees and sailing over my woodpile.  Close behind ran another.  How they can run so fast through the woods is a mystery.  I watched to see if there was a dog or 2 on their trail.  Suddenly back they came.  For the next 15 minutes 3 to 4 of the younger deer, babies this spring played tag in the woods.  They did mock fighting when they met and then turned and leaped off again.  The older does looked at them and seemed to shake their heads, Oh to be young again, LOL.

Although I don't live in a fancy neighborhood or house I love where I live.  I like to look out the picture window and see the wildlife in my backyard.  We have seen the deer of course everyday but also have seen an occasional red fox, a mountain lion once, wild turkey, pheasent, wood ducks with their babies and all manner of song birds.  Once a large red tailed hawk landed under the plum tree to enjoy its meal and we have huge barn owls.  Most don't stick around for my camera but I have taken some pictures.  And I don't have any real close neighbors.  When I look out my window I am not looking into my neighbors house.  I love that.  I pray they never come and build on the lots next to us.

As you can see we got snow.  It has been snowing all day and is suppose to snow tomorrow also.  Sigh.  At least we didn't get ice.

No Ta Da

Today was suppose to be my Ta Da, more weight loss post.  Sigh.  Instead it is my no weight gain post.  I'll take that.  I am still down 4, 6 to go to get to my first 10 pound goal.  Tomorrow we are both hitting the gym before 9.  We have recommitted after we both sat and talked about how our hard earned muscles are rapidly dissappearing and if we don't start now our bike rides are going to be really miserable this spring.  And you know who much we like our bike rides, LOL.

Last night for supper we had one of those meals you could never get in a restaurant, or if you could it would be way overpriced.  We used Newmans own Pesto and tomato sauce and doctored it some with fresh mushrooms, garlic and lean hamburger and sausage.  I added a can of diced tomatoes which also had pesto and garlic.  Serve over whole wheat noodles and my husband made a great garlic bread.  We spray the bread with Parkey spray, no calories and then add the garlic spread and grated parmesian cheese.  Top off with a nice Zinfindel and a great dark green salad and you have a meal fit for us.  Yummy.  I love the flavor of pesto.

Breakfast this morning was my slim fast and an all grain english muffin with organic ruhbarb and strawberry sugar free all natural spread, only 35 calories and so yummy.  See, you can eat low fat, low sugar and still have it taste like heaven.  Just make sure you watch your portions.

Like I mentioned before I never have that full feeling so I have to make sure and measure my portions and not get seconds.  If it tastes good it doesn't matter how much you get, just that you get some right!

No idea yet what is for supper.  I have been doing pretty good on plan.  Now if it had been up to me last night I would have left the hamburger and sausage out of the sauce.  Alone it was only 80 calories.  Or used ground turkey.  Hard to get the cook to change his habits though.  He does make it as lean as possible and drains all the grease but still, I have to keep working on him.

Well, how much more boring can I make this post, LOL.  Talking about food.  What else from someone trying to lose weight, It is on my mind.  How to eat healthy, how to cut down, how to make this taste good but still be in my calorie zone.  People trying to lose know what I mean.  You think more about food now then you ever did before.

Question for my friends over the pond.

On a couple of movies, The Worlds Fastest Indian, and All Things Bright and Beautiful I have hear this saying and would love to know the origin.  What is the origin of Bob's Your Uncle?  What a delightful and strange phase.  So.... Where does it come from.  I kind of know what it means.  Thanks you all.

Observations

Went grocery shopping on the rich side of town yesterday. Thanks to the freezing weather all the wealthy women in town were out and about showing off their fur coats. Haven't been able to do it much this year. Most with just one item in their cart, the real reason for the shopping trip was to be admired. I haven't seen that much fur since the last time I was at our local humane society volunteering. Any moment I expected some mad crazy person with a bucket of red paint to come bursting out of the veggie isle and douse the blatant wearer of murdered little animals from head to toe. But for the most part, thank goodness, this town wouldn't do that. We respect your property.

Except for the graffiti vandals. I once asked a young man why he had spray painted the gibberish on the wall? "That way", he boasted, "everyone that goes by will know it was ME"! Many people go through this alley in the poor section of town to look at this wall with your name? Wouldn't it better if you want to be known to find the cure for the common cold? Cure cancer? Find a way to get trash to disappear once it was thrown out. Wouldn't people then be singing your name from the tops of roof tops. Why on buildings, rocks, trains and other peoples property. Why at others peoples expense.

Lately I have been hearing on the talk shows and news something I knew anyway. Look! Since they sent some of the illegal aliens back Americans are taking the jobs. WHAT! The jobs Americans don't want? How can that be?

I already knew that. I live in a town that is surrounded by beef and pork packing plants. For as long as the buildings have stood there have been American workers working there. Or legal American immigrants. Families were raised, homes were bought. The people worked hard, but with the help of the union they got fair wages and could make a living. That started changing about 10 years ago. Although they will deny it, the plants started bringing in illegal aliens to do the jobs. Going so far as to make them shanties on the back of the plant to stay in until they got busted. Wages dropped by over $4.00 dollars an hour.

Try telling a man who is busy packing because he just lost his job and home that his job was taken by people who are doing the jobs Americans don't want to do. You'll get a free nose job for it. Try telling our Cement workers who have been on strike since before Thanksgiving that they don't really want to do the job. Try watching the young contractor who built your home tell you with tears in his eyes that he is giving up his life long dream because he can't compete with the cheaper labor. No they are not telling me something I didn't already know. But maybe, just maybe.....they are telling someone who really didn't know. And maybe, hopefully it will change.
