I made it

By the skin of my teeth and 30 minutes late, but I make it to my day off.  And it is sorely needed.   Most of the confused patients were gone and replaced by critical heart patients.  Very very sick heart patients.  Each one could have been in ICU.... but were on my floor.  We are not staffed like the ICU so it was a busy night.  Good thing is we only had one bed left so at least we couldn't get any admits.  2 of my patients particularly concerned me so I was checking on them and assessing them often during the night and adjusted medication where need be.  It seemed like the 13 hours went by in the blink of an eye.   I know they will be calling me to work tonight, but I am not.  I am taking a mineral bath and resting my wrist and soul.  Smelling the new flowers Rick got me.  Relaxing.

I have no real plans for my week off.  It is cold out right now but supposed to get nicer at the end of the week.  I have to clean house and of course work at my MIL's.

Also I am behind on journals.  Ideally I could get out on my bike And take some photo's this week.  We shall see.  It is hard to get excited about taking pics when it is dirty old melting snow everywhere you look.

And Monday I have my wonderful all day meeting on my day off.  The thrill, the excitement.  Who thinks up these things anyway and do they actually get paid for it?  I want that job.

Well, according to the eagle site if the female is going to have babies this year she had better get busy.  Time is running out.  So keep your fingers crossed.  Maybe she still hasn't forgiven him for his fling with the young tart.  Understandable but.......we want eggs.  Kiss and makeup birds!

         Bye all.

The last day is here again

Once again the last night of work has rolled upon me.   We have been busy and bursting at the seams.  I am pretty sure I will be getting some calls to come in on my day off.  But will I?

Got off work this morning to fresh snow on the ground.   Bummer.  When will it ever stop.   I want good weather.  Soon.  So I am doing a flower theme on this entry.

I am mentally smelling them and looking the pretty colors.  I am basking in the warmth of the sun.  Birds are singing and as long as I am dreaming I just won the lottery and have quit my job.  Oh...........wouldn't that be wonderful.

Zoey is doing better lately.  She was so dumpy for awhile we were worried but she seems to have improved again.  Even somewhat playful.  Big sigh of relief.

I haven't been typing as much.  My
DeQuervain's tenosynovitis is acting up again.  I can't get it injected anymore and the only cure is surgery.   The pain is pretty awful.  I am hoping it clears up on its own but chances of it doing that are not good.   But getting the injection was simply awful also and I sure wasn't looking forward to that.  I was hoping it would last longer.  The first shot lasted me a couple of years.  This one only a few months.

And with that in mind and the fact that my hand is numb and in pain I will close.   One more night of work. Yippy.

Eagle Cam

Here is the link for the Eagle Cam

It will be black at first but just let it sit for a minute and the cam works.  I just checked and the eagles are out and about but they come and go.

Hi

I had a nice day off.  Mostly slept and played catch up but thats OK.   I feel refreshed and ready for the last 2 nights of work.  It was a busy weekend.

Checked the eagle cam this morning. It was down for awhile but is up again and the female is sitting on the nest.  I don't know if there is a egg or not but it is a good sign.  Now if he can just control his wanderlust.  Eagles!

I am getting new glasses.  Radically different from what I have now and now I am nervous about it.  What seemed like a good idea at the time may have been a mistake.  I have a hard time changing what I know I like, same hair, same shoes, same uniforms, same glasses.  So I hope I haven't made an expensive mistake.

Spring is slow coming to Iowa.  They are talking more snow.  We just melted it away the last few days and my road is just starting to dry up and now more snow.  Yuk.  I want to hit the trails.  I want to take pictures of something besides snow and mud.  Soon I know but I am impatient.

Today we are going to do a few things at my MIL's.  BIL is still there.  He has made no attempt to leave as he has been sick, so he says.  I am counting down the days until the auction man comes to get everything accounted for.  13 days give or take.  Running out of time.

We sold the oak table and buffet to a relative and theypicked it up Saturday.  It is hard to watch some the these items leave.  At least they will stay in the family.  I have the freezer listed and hope to get the fridge emptied and ready soon.  This whole thing has been depressing and emotionally exhausting.  With the added stress of my BIL it has been a bad year so I am looking forward to it being over.

Monday I have to spend 8 hours in a meeting.  Now I don't mind a meeting where I have to learn a new procedure for work, but this is one of those meeting where you have to learn to be polite and have manners. I have manners and am polite.  I got a nice award remember!

Someone who has never worked on the floor and has convinced other people who never work on a busy  hospital floor that we all have so have classes to learn to get along.  Say what!  On my day off they are going to make me sit all day in a class to learn what we all do anyway.  Who thinks up these things?  Sheesh.  If your going to make me waste a day off I want it to be constructive, not this ridiculous stuff.  You walk out of these meetings, toss the paper work in the first waste can you can find and promptly forget it, glad to have it done with and full of resentment for them wasting your day off.  And worse yet I hear it is very boring.  8 hours of sheer boredom.

Anyway, enough of my whining.  Time to get ready to go.  I work tonight so don't have to much time to waste.  And my house is really in need of cleaning.  Bye all.

Eagle cam

For those watching the eagle cam.  As you know some young floozy chased away the older female a fews weeks back causing the breaking up of the nest and the death of eggs.   Ole Daddy eagle was seen hanging around with the much too young new eagle looking like a fool with feathers.  Well....

Seems like younger is not always better.  We knew that didn't we ladies.  The older the fiddle the sweeter the tune etc.....  Now it looks like daddy is back with his tail between his legs and momma eagle may accept him.  We may get eggs and babies yet.  Stay tuned for the continuing saga.  It ain't over until the fat eagle sings!

Dementia

We seem to be having a blue light special this weekend on Dementia.  As I sit there in my my hall chair positioned to watch 3 or 4 especially active demented patients the yells and cussing from our more verbal one drift down the hall.  My  tension headaches danced around behind my eyes like little demons from hell.

What causes dementia?  What can I do to prevent dementia,? I ponder.  Some causes have answers and preventive measures, but other causes remain unknown and unpreventable.  Which will I get.  Will mine be from late nights not sleeping and repeating the same reassuring sentence over and over again?  When I am 89 will I be laying in my hospital bed kicking my covers off and saying over and over.....its alright, hush, try to rest and not worry.  I will be here.  There is nothing to be frightened of.  Lets get back in bed now.

So that is how my weekend is going so far.  One last night to go. One more night...one more night......one more night.
